Angora wool is the finest and lightest of all natural fibers and wonderfully soft. It even surpasses cashmere in its fineness. However, to make angora fibers more stable and durable, they are often spun with other fibers such as cotton, sheep's wool, or acrylic. At Medima, we have used this to develop a wide variety of different material compositions over the years. Our extensive product range extends from classic thermal underwear, sportswear, and joint warmers to fine delicates.

Particularly light yet extremely warm: Angora wool is not only the lightest and finest natural fiber, it is also extremely comfortable to wear next to the skin. Numerous small air chambers within the angora hair act as insulating cushions, retaining body heat. Cold air coming from outside is kept away from the body, but the body's own heat is retained. The effect is comparable to double-glazed windows. Angora wool is therefore many times warmer than sheep's wool.

When worn, the angora fiber always ensures a pleasant climate on the skin. Firstly, it prevents the absorption of water from outside sources, such as rain. A layer of oil ensures that water simply beads off the surface.
Our angora underwear and segments stay pleasantly dry on the skin not only in damp conditions, but also when you sweat. Special hollow structures within the hair absorb the warm moisture and effectively wick it away. Angora can retain up to 60 percent of its own weight in water in this way, compared to only 30 percent for sheep's wool. Synthetic fibers can absorb virtually no water. This is also the reason why sheep's wool quickly feels wet on the skin when you sweat.

For our entire product range, we use exclusively Angora hair from shorn Angora rabbits. To ensure this, the fibers used for yarn production are regularly examined by an independent laboratory. The smooth cut surface of the shorn Angora hair is clearly visible under a scanning electron microscope.
Angora rabbits are very sensitive, which is why they can only be kept in temperate climates. Since Angora rabbit owners rely on the quality and quantity of Angora hair, they take great care to ensure their Angora rabbits are well cared for. To "produce" good hair, the animals are fed a particularly varied diet and kept in airy, clean stables. Since we largely retain the natural color of the Angora wool in our laundry without additional dyeing or treatment, soiling the hair would render the Angora wool unusable for us.
The rabbits are sheared 3-4 times a year. Shearing usually takes about 10-15 minutes and is done with electric or hand shears. Because the animals are accustomed to human handling, they remain quiet during shearing—tying them up is therefore unnecessary. The rabbit feels no pain during shearing, and a residual coat of about 1 cm remains, so the animal does not freeze even in low temperatures. Since an Angora rabbit can produce good hair quality for many years with regular shearing, every producer has a strong interest in the animals' health. Therefore, Angora rabbits, like sheep, are naturally not slaughtered after shearing.

To ensure even greater security when purchasing angora wool, Medima relies on sustainably certified angora fibers. The new "Caregora" seal stands for controlled, trustworthy angora farms that comply with both European standards for animal husbandry and the even stricter Animal Welfare Code of the British Ministry of Agriculture. These high testing standards guarantee that our branded products truly contain only the highest quality hair from shorn angora rabbits.
What exactly does this label mean? The Caregora seal of quality regulates all aspects of the production of certified angora fiber: from the inspection of breeding farms and sorting to transport to the customer (spinning mill). The individual steps of angora production are illustrated in the diagram below.

breeding farms
All of our breeding farms raise their Angora rabbits according to DEFRA standards. Caregora™ is produced according to strict animal welfare guidelines, ensuring the animals are treated humanely. Natural fibers guarantee the highest levels of responsibility, care, and social respect.
All breeding farms have been inspected exclusively on behalf of Natural Fibers by SGS SA according to DEFRA standards.

sorting plant
The Caregora™ fibers are sorted, baled, and marked according to our specifications. Our sorting facilities are regularly monitored by our office in China.

export
The pre-sorted Caregora bales are stored separately, meaning they are separated from other fibers. The greatest care is required during storage to ensure the quality of the hair. Storage takes place in special bags to ensure the purity of the Caregora fibers.
The marked Caregora bales are sent to our raw material dealer, where they are stored until they are used in the spinning mill.

spinning
In the spinning mill, the Caregora hair is spun into various yarns. We maintain long-term partnerships with our spinning mills to ensure the consistently high quality of our raw materials over the long term.
The yarns are then processed into various fabrics at Medima.
